The impact of European Union migration policy on Lithuania and Lithuania’s objectives in formulating European Union policy in the areas of legal and illegal migration

The purpose of the research is to assess the impact of the EU initiatives in the area of legal immigration of third country nationals on Lithuania’s labour market and to suggest recommendations for Lithuania’s priorities in formulating the common EU immigration policy.

The objectives of the research are:
1. to exercise meta-analysis of previous research on the demand of labour force from third countries in Lithuania;
2. to assess the demand of the labour force from third countries in Lithuania, above all of seasonal workers, intra-corporate transferees, remunerated trainees;
3. to assess the impact of the EU initiatives relating to seasonal workers, intra-corporate transferees and remunerated trainees on Lithuania.

The research applies various methods: a desk research; a survey of the business representatives (managers/owners of the enterprises), in-depth interviews with civil servants from Lithuania’s institutions.
